The Onondaga County boundary geographic dataset was created by the Syracuse-Onondaga County Planning Agency. The shapefile consists of a polygon feature representing the county boundary. The dataset is based on the Onondaga County Street File and visible features digitized using 2006 aerial photography obtained from the New York State Digital Orthoimagery Program.
Purpose:
Suitable for use in a GIS database to display the Onondaga County boundary.

Process_Description:
The Onondaga County boundary shapefile was developed by extracting linear county boundary features from the Onondaga County Street file. The boundaries extracted from the street file were originally developed from a variety of sources, including the Onondaga County Parcel dataset. In instances where the county boundary is represented by photo-identifiable features, it was positionally matched on-screen to 2006 photography from the New York State Digital Orthoimagery Program. As a result, the accuracy of those segments of the county boundary that follow photo-identifiable features is considered more accurate than those that do not. After completion of the boundary extraction and alignment, the lines were converted to a polygon shapefile using ArcCatalog. A single attributes indicating the county name has been added to the shapefile.
