Abstract:
The City of Syracuse Wards geographic dataset was created by the Syracuse-Onondaga County Planning Agency
(SOCPA) for use in its GIS database. The shapefile consists of polygon features representing each Ward in the City of
Syracuse, as determined by the Onondaga County Board of Elections (BOE). This dataset was created directly from the
Onondaga County Election District shapefile by using the "dissolve" command (applied to the CITY_WARD attribute) in
ArcMap. The only attribute included with this file is a double-character attribute identifying the ward number.
Purpose:
Suitable for use in a GIS database for the display, query, and identification of Wards in the City of Syracuse.

reviewed for accuracy by the Onondaga County Board of Elections (BOE) in hard copy form only. As a result, it is
possible that one or more errors may exist in the attribute data. This file is not expected to be updated in the near future
unless ward boundaries are officially altered.

Process_Description:
The City of Syracuse Wards shapefile was created directly from the Onondaga County Election District shapefile in
ArcMap by dissolving the election districts using the CITY_WARD attribute. As a result, the City of Syracuse Ward
boundaries should geographically coincide with features from the election district file, and thus, the Onondaga
County Street file upon which it was based. A double-character attribute describing the ward number is included.
